"AFTER Democrats
are elected, they tend to vote with their Democrat legislators
80% of the time, and with "my" views 20%
of the time.."

WHY? Even so, some Democrat candidates have tremendous personal appeal. In 2000,
I voted a straight Republican ticket, but “cross-voted” for one Democrat candidate that seemed to represent Irving and my views. This may be acceptable for many people, but I will tell you what I have found. AFTER Democrats are elected, they tend to vote with their Democrat legislators 80% of the time, and with “my” views 20% of the time.

WHY? One objection I hear to voting straight Republican is that a “good” Democrat is better than a “bad” Republican. Actually, I have found that this is NOT the case. In 2004, a Democrat friend of the family ran for and won
a Texas House seat in Austin. I know him, and he is a great guy. Recently, I checked
his voting record. He may be a great guy,
but he votes against most of the legislation that I support.

WHY? After an election, all elected politicians say that they represent ALL of the people. That may be, but there is one BIG problem. Sometimes I call my elected representative about a particular issue like “cutting taxes” or “reducing spending”. When it comes to issues like these, getting a Democrat to vote “your” way is almost impossible.

Why vote straight Republican? Because, most of the time, Republican candidates:

1. Are better than the newspaper
recommendations.
2. Are researched better than your
own independent research.
3. Vote “your” way after they are elected.
4. Are great guys or gals, AND they vote
conservatively.
5. Will listen, and value your opinion on
important issues.

Why Vote Straight Republican?

I am a conservative, and when it comes to politics one question always sneaks into my
mind … WHY?

WHY?One reason that many people give is that in Dallas County, the “Democrats are doing it”. In 2006, over 15,000 more straight-ticket democrats voted than straight-ticket Republicans. As a result, all Republican judges in Dallas County lost because Republicans did not vote all the way down the ballot. In the 2008 election, there were over 100,000 more straight-ticket Democrats. Even though straight-ticket voting percentages are an important consideration, I just cannot endorse voting this way “because the Democrats are doing it”.

WHY? I remember that, back in college,
I was very proud of being an “Independent” voter. I read the newspaper recommendations but decided on my own which candidates were the “best”. Over time, I have become pretty disillusioned with this approach. I find that I disagree with newspaper views on issues and selections on candidates much of the time. Newspapers are biased, and as a result, my “Independent” selections of candidates are very often a BIG disappointment when and if they are elected and begin legislative voting.

WHY? Sometime around 1988, I switched from being an “Independent” to being a Republican.
I remember voting in the Republican primary.
I heard about and attended my first Republican precinct convention and found that political parties have platforms. I continued voting Republican and saw positive changes in 1995 when Republicans became a majority in Congress for the first time in 40 years. I found that Republicans vote “my” way most of the time AFTER they are elected
